Access to information in the security sector

Tunis, March 31, 2021: As part of their cooperation program, the DCAF and the Authority for Access to Information (INAI) organized, in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior, a workshop on " access to information in the security sector ”.

The workshop allowed INAI and the Ministry of the Interior to present the various initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of transparency and access to information and to discuss the question of application of the right of access to information in the security sector as enshrined in the Constitution and Organic Law No. 2016-22 of March 24, 2016.

The workshop allowed also to present some international standards relating to exceptions to the right of access to information in the security sector.

Aware of the importance of transparency and access to information in order to guarantee the accountability of the public administration while preserving the imperatives related to national security, the INAI and the ministry emphasized the importance to strengthen their cooperation and the need of review information management systems.

A list of recommendations resulting from this workshop will be submitted to the partners to identify the next steps.

This project is funded through the DCAF Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland finance the Fund. Further information on DCAF is available on the DCAF website or on the DCAF Tunisia website
