Workshop on juvenile justice system with regard to terrorism cases organized within a partnership between DCAF, OMCT, CNLCT and INPT

Tunis, 28 and 29 January 2020: The conference entitled « Children, detention and the fight against terrorism: What relations? What rights? » allowed national authorities and international experts to share experiences and know-how in the field of the protection of children's rights in the fight against terrorism.

In the presence of representatives of the ministry of Justice, Interior, Social Affairs and Family & Children current mechanisms, structures and practices to strengthen the rights of children throughout the criminal justice chain have been debated.

Great importance was also given to good practices and challenges inherent in preventing youth radicalization and implementing measures of social reintegration for children directly or indirectly involved in terrorist acts.

The debates were enriched by comparative approaches and exchanges between national and international participants which resulted in the elaboration of a list of recommendations to reform the juvenile justice system.

DCAF is committed to continue – in cooperation with the Tunisian authorities – its work through concrete activities aimed at supporting a coordinated and inclusive security strategy while reinforcing the guarantees of children’s rights.

DCAF’s contribution to this workshop is funded by DCAF's Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). The funding comes from Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Further information on DCAF is available on the DCAF website (www.dcaf.ch) or on the DCAF Tunisia website
