Workshop to launch the Cooperation Program between DCAF and the Ministry of Women, Family and Seniors: evaluation of the integration of the gender approach in the security and justice sector.

Tunis, June 15, 2021: DCAF and the Ministry of Women, Family and Seniors organized a workshop to announce the start of their partnership program on gender equality in the security sector. The objective is to support the actors of the security sector - Internal security forces, armed forces, magistrates, prison staff and customs officers - in carrying out a self-assessment on their consideration of the gender approach within the framework of their respective missions.

The workshop, which brought together representatives of the Ministries of Defense, the Interior, and Justice, as well as members of the Peer Council (Body created in 2016 and whose main mission is to integrate the gender approach into policies and development plans), focused on the strategy of the Ministry of Women concerning the integration of the gender approach in the security sector, the expectations of the joint project and the importance of obtaining the support of the various stakeholders to ensure success, as well as the DCAF Self-Assessment Guide on Gender for Police, Armed Forces and Justice.

In this context, the workshop also allowed representatives of different ministries to present their progress in this area and their respective expectations.

The DCAF gender program in Tunisia is funded by DCAF's Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). The funding comes from Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
