DCAF launches a new web platform on the Tunisian criminal justice system

Tunis, October 26, 2017: DCAF launches a new online platform on the Tunisian criminal justice system: “The A to Z of criminal justice in Tunisia”

The process of criminal justice in Tunisia is complex and hard to comprehend for the common citizen, the people who are being prosecuted, as well as for the general public. Understanding how the criminal justice systems works is essential to know one’s rights and responsibilities of all the actors involved, and thus, to promote transparency.

Thanks to its rich content, its ergonomics and interactivity the “The A to Z of criminal justice in Tunisia” platform has 3 objectives:

  • To reinforce the access to information pertaining to the organization and functioning of the Tunisian criminal justice system,
  • To allow the person answerable to the law to be informed of the regulations which apply to his/her situation and the powers of judicial actors, an understanding which will reinforce citizens’ trust in the legal system
  • To explain and popularize legal information pertaining to the work of the criminal justice system to people who are interested in the theme
  • To promote an inclusive debate about criminal justice reform in Tunisia.
  •

The platform is available in a responsive version in French and in Tunisian dialect for a wider accessibility.

Representatives of the Ministry of Justice, of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, of the Instance nationale d’accès à l’information (national instance for the access to information), international partners and of civil society were present during the event and all acknowledged the importance of such an instrument for citizens and Tunisian institutions.

This project was part of the DCAF’s strategic objective to provide support in terms of communication and information sharing.

This project is financed through the DCAF Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). The Fund is financed by Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland. Further information on DCAF is available on the DCAF website or on the DCAF Tunisia website.
