HAICA and the Ministry of Women, Family, Children and Seniors, in collaboration with DCAF, organize a national conference on the rights of children in Tunisian audiovisual media

Tunis, April 11, 2019: In partnership with the Independent High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HAICA) and the Ministry of Women, Family, Childhood and Seniors, DCAF organized a conference devoted to media treatment issues related to childhood.

Speakers presented the legal framework governing children's issues and discussed practical cases of the violation of these rights in the media, their possible causes and the resulting challenges in the presence of representatives of the General Delegation for Child Protection (DGPE) and various media organizations. The presentation of the experiences of the Belgian and Bosnian authorities for media regulation has enriched the debate and presented European standards in term of a media coverage of issues related to children. This roundtable was also an opportunity to present recommendations to promote self-regulation of the audiovisual sector and to better take into consideration the interest of the child during the broadcast of audiovisual content.

This event was followed the day after by a meeting for the restitution of the mapping of actors and mechanisms of child protection, elaborated within the framework of a partnership between DCAF and DGPE. The meeting brought together about twenty senior officials representing various public ministries with child protection structures (children at risk, children in conflict with the law, etc.). The guests exchanged views on the content of the map and made recommendations to improve it.

These two events were funded by DCAF's Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). The funding comes from Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland. Further information on DCAF is available on DCAF website or on DCAF Tunisia website.
