The Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) and the Directorate General for Prisons and Re-education (DGPR) organized a workshop to assess new specific needs and formulate recommendations on future activities.

Tunis, 3 & 4 July 2019: Representatives of the DGPR as well as prison staff in charge of statistics benefited from the intervention of a Swiss expert on penitentiary statistics mandated by DCAF to identify their specific needs related to data collection, analysis and dissemination.

This workshop provided the participants with an opportunity to carry out in first instance an assessment of the current challenges faced all along the process of collection, transmission and processing of penitentiary related data. A group discussion followed in order to jointly plan new targeted interventions aiming both at building the capacity of prison staff to produce statistics and contributing to the promotion of an integrated and digital data management system.

This event is part of the cooperation between DCAF and the DGPR, initiated in 2014, with the objective of a strengthened strategic penitentiary governance penitentiary policy by supporting sound data collection, analysis and dissemination.

This project is funded through the DCAF Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). The Fund is financed by Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Further information on DCAF is available on the DCAF website or on the DCAF Tunisia website
