DCAF and the AIHR present the preliminary results of the study “gender in the security sector” to the Ministry for Women, Family and Children’s Affairs

Tunis, 16 September 2015: The Ministry for Women Family and Children’s Affairs received a delegation of Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and the Arab Institute for Human Rights-(AIHR) for a consultative meeting on ‘gender and security’.

The meeting allowed DCAF and AIHR to present the preliminary results and recommendations of the study “Identification of needs for gender mainstreaming in the security sector” to Mrs. Samira Merai Friaa, Minister for Women’s Affairs, Family and Childhood.

This study is the result of two years of consultations with the Ministries of the Interior, National Defense, Justice, DG customs and other relevant institutions. It concerns on one hand gender mainstreaming among security providers in Tunisia (legislation, human resources, practice) and on the other hand the specific expectations and perceptions of the beneficiaries of these services (women, men, boys and girls).

The final version of the study will be published by the end of 2015.

The study is financed by DCAF Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). The Fund is financed by Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland. Further information on DCAF is available on DCAF website or on DCAF Tunisia website.
