DCAF holds a workshop to finalize the annual report that studies the situation of re-education centers in Tunisia.

Hammamet July 2 and 3, 2020: In partnership with the Ministry of Women, Family, Children, and the Elderly, the DCAF organized a workshop to enable the DPE to finalize their first annual report that addresses the situation of the re-education centers for minors between 2018 and 2019.

This two-day workshop enabled 12 participants, the DPE members of the Committee of Re-education, to:

- Cope with the tools and methodology of writing the annual report;

- Harmonize the indicators of monitoring of the re-education centers in the inland regions;

- Apply their knowledge of international norms and good practices that concern the rights of the children in detention.

The final version of the report contains recommendations for the Ministry of Justice, and particularly  for the General Committee of Prisons and Re-education,  especially regarding the conditions of placement and treatment of minors in the re-education centers as well as their monitoring after they are released.

It is important to remember that this workshop is one of a series of others launched in 2018 that aim at enhancing the abilities of DPE, and, thus, reinforcing their capacities in matters of planning,  executing, and monitoring of the visits to the re-education centers for minors in Tunisia.

This event is financed through the DCAF Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). The Fund is financed actually by Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Further information on DCAF is available on the DCAF website or on the DCAF Tunisia website.
