Tunis, 3 and 4 December 2019: The Tunisian National Authority for the Prevention of Torture (INPT) hosted, like in previous years, a thematic conference for an inter/national audience of practitioners, experts and policymakers, this year on ‘the classification of detainees’.

In line with INPT’s key competency of conducting as independent state institution visits at detention centers to prevent torture and promote human rights, the objective of this annual conference was to exchange experiences and knowledge on how to implement international norms and standards related to prisoner classification in national penitentiary systems. National authorities’ representatives and foreign delegations – among others from Mauretania, Morocco and The Palestinian Territories – attended this two-day colloquium.

Together with other international partners of INPT, DCAF provided support to the organization of this event by moderating workshops and providing expertise on relevant topics. At the inauguration ceremony, on the 2nd of December, DCAF supported a panel-debate on imprisonment and torture in the past

DCAF is committed to continue its support the INPT’s mission of preventing torture and promoting human rights.
