Tunis, 9 June 2017 – In close cooperation with and the Institut de la Défense Nationale (IDN) and upon its request, DCAF was pleased to contribute to the organisation of a debate workshop on crisis communication and relationship between armed forces and media.

This special event, involving chief editors from public and private Tunisian media, aimed at strengthening exchanges and dialogue between the military institution and national media.

DCAF invited two international experts to contribute to the event: a French Lieutenant-Colonel formerly responsible for army’s communication and a renowned Swiss reporter in conflict zones. Both jointly facilitated the debate on areas of convergence and divergence regarding relations between journalists and the military institution in terms of information processing and sharing.

This workshop enabled over 20 Tunisian journalists to engage with people in charge of communication at the Tunisian ministry of national Defense. The journalists took advantage of the opportunity and expressed their expectations in matters of information processing and sharing, especially in crisis situation.

At the end of the debate workshop, all the participants agreed upon increasing this type of exchange in order to enhance good governance of armed forces and in the Tunisian security sector.

DCAF’s contribution to the project is funded by its Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). The donors are Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland.
