The role of the parliament in budgetary and financial control of the security sector and defence procurement.”

Tunis 3rd and 4th of May 2019: In partnership with the Commission on security and defence, DCAF organized a two-day workshop tackling the role that the parliament can play in the budgetary and financial control of the security sector and of defense procurement.

The interventions of experts from Bulgaria and Switzerland prompted engaging discussions on various topics including the basic principles of military procurement as well the potential opportunities and the possible challenges of the parliamentary financial oversight of the security sector.

The workshop focused on the best international practices  that could eventually inspire parliamentarians. This workshop aimed to:

-         Reinforce the knowledge of the members of the CSD around the accessible tools to implement an effective budgetary control on the security sector.

-         Reinforce the members’ understanding of the procedures of defence and security procurement.

-         Reinforce the members’ knowledge of the best practices of the budgetary control in the security sector.

It was accomplished in continuation of the cooperation between the Assembly of Peoples’ Representatives and DCAF.

This project is funded through the DCAF Trust Fund for North Africa (TFNA). The Fund is financed by Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Further information on DCAF is available on the DCAF website or on the DCAF Tunisia website
